Interview with William J. Alexander, a Army WWII veteran from Universal, Pennsylvania, who served as an officer of the 382nd Engineer Battalion (Separate), a unit of black enlisted troops. Alexander discusses growing up, joining the Civilian Conservation Corps, joining the Army and commissioning through OCS, training, deployment to India, building the Ledo Road, General Joseph Stilwell, constructing the 20th Bomber Command HQ, working in a steelmill, the atomic bomb, returning home, and postwar service.

Essential Factors in the Formation of Producer Gas
From Introduction Scope and Purpose of Inquiry: "The Bureau of Mines, to which the testing and analyzing of fuels as carried on by the United States Geographical Survey has been transferred, is continuing producer-gas investigations at the testing station at Pittsburgh, Pa. Results of the gas-producer tests made at the coal-testing plant erected at St.Louis, Mo., and of a study of some of the problems that came up in the tests have been published by Geological Survey. Eradication of Ferns from Pasture Lands in the Eastern United States
"There are nearly 7,500 recognized species of ferns in the world, of which number over 200 are known to be native to the United States. A few species have become weed pests in this country, and it is to a discussion of the control of these weedy ferns that this bulletin is devoted. The parts of the United States in which ferns are bad weeds are, principally, (1) the hill country of the Northeastern States and the higher portions of the Appalachian Mountain region as far south as Georgia, and (2) the Pacific coast country west of the Cascade Mountains.... Letter from Nancy Cunningham to Sarah “Sally” Teackle Kendall describing her flight from Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War, and also contains updates about Teackle's brother Severn Teackle who is imprisoned by the British on a ship anchored off Long Island. Severn Teackle is the Grandfather of Severn Teackle Wallis. Attached to this letter is a note dated 1829 written by Elizabeth Upshur Teackle explaining how she came to be in possession of this letter from her Great Aunt Sally Teackle Kendall.
