Photograph taken for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Speed of Cycle Puzzles Police How fast was this motorcycle raveling when it struck a dip in the pavement and went out of control 225 feet before the youthful driver was thrown 50 feet? Police don't know the rate of speed, but an officer points to the "stop" hand on the motorcycle's clocking speedometer, which registers the highest speed attained. The "stop" hand registers 87 miles an hour. A motorcycle dealer here familiar with the vehicle involved in the accident, maintained it could not have been going 87 miles an hour because the top speed is 85 miles an hour. He also said a jar or the back wheel jumping off the pavement might cause the "stop" hand to register an inaccurate speed. The accident occurred early Thursday in the 2400 block NW 16, and the driver, identified as Paul Collum Purser, 18, of 5700 NW 39, was taken to Mercy hospital suffering from a fractured skull. His condition later Thursday was termed critical."
