Bermuda Grass Pasture
Photograph of second of a series of pictures of a 40-acre Bermuda grass pasture established in May and June, 1955 by sprigging and overseeded in July with 2 pounds of seed per acre. 100 pounds of 10-20-10 fertilizer per acre was used during each operation. Pasture was not used until September 3, when the owner turned in 175 head of cattle. Over 300 animan-unit-month grazing has been taken from this pasture, with considerable forage ramaining for winter cover and use.

UNIDENTIFIED Man on Tractor Rebuilding Contour Ridges and Planting Bermudagrass/Pryor Project
Photograph of W. T. Gooldy using a tractor to rebuild this field's contour ridges and plant Bermudagrass for additional protection. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Rebuilding of contour ridges in the fall and covering with Bermuda grass and to protect it from winter freezing on ridges. Rebuilt with tractor and 4-disk one-way. Mr. Gooldy contour ridged 63-acres of pasture lands in spring of 1937. The Pryor CCC Camp sodded these ridges soon after they were built. The Bermuda grass made enough growth to completely cover most of the ridges, and supplied good grazing most of the summer. The cooperator mowed most of this pasture during the summer months to control weed growth. The cooperator plans to construct contour ridges on 380 acres in the fall of 1937. The Soil Conservation Services agrees to plant Bermuda grass in spring of 1938."

Photograph of spoils banks from land formally strip-mined in 1947 located on Todd Fugate's property. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Spoils banks from land strip mined in 1947. Fugate intended to smooth spoils banks and sod bermudagrass for pasture, but gave up after spending $105.00 on dozer work and got only the one spoils bank leveled which is shown in photo. He sowed Korean lespedeza and is waiting for more weathering of shale before sodding Bermuda. What he has in spoils banks is mostly wasteland or Class VIII land of questionable value for wildlife."

Photograph of graded Border Irrigation System. (4300 Acre). Water is pumped from Verdigris River at N. E. corner of 400 acre field. Water is shown running from feeder ditch through border to field tabs. Field to left of electric fence is in rye and vetch and has had one irrigation. An additional 300 acres will be leveled smoothed ditched and bordered and put into irrigation in 1956. The system designed provides drainage as well as irrigation.
