Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Eighty-seven John Marshall High School economics students set out this week to find out just how many backaches there was in a bale of cotton. And, after three hours of picking cotton by hand at the Oklahoma State University experimental farm near NW 10 and Portland, most found plenty. H. Oliver Roberts, the teacher, said the "Cotton Pick-In" was held to give the Students "some idea of what wage earners faced before the machine age...Linda Woolery, a cute, red-haired junior who was lugging a cotton sack bigger than she was, said she was "already tired, and I've just been here 45 minutes." "I'm just supposed to pick to the end this row, and I can't even see that far," she said. Linday Woolery totes in on her shoulder."

Photograph taken for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "A sixth signal light structure in Midwest City was damaged this week by an accident at SE 29 and Industrial Blvd. Vehicle collisions with stationary light signals at key Midwest City intersections are costing the city hundreds of dollars in repairs, John Bates, city engineer, said today. So far this year the city has paid more than $815 for repair of signal lights. (the figure does not include the cost of replacing a signal light pole badly damaged Monday when a truck slammed into it at SE 29 and Industrial Boulevard.) Last year the repair figure was over the $5,000 mark, primarily due to one accident at SE 29 and A Avenue, which cost more than $3,600, Bates said. Dwayne Venable, signal maintenance technician, said lights standing in left-hand turn islands are most vulnerable.
