The blast occurred about 10 p.m. in the school building at SW 3 and Walker. Comcussion ripped out two plate glasswindows and tore out window sills. School officials said they will have no means of heating the building when students return to school from Thanksgivingholiday Monday. Roy Clontz, 61, of 3204 NW 13, head custodian, said he lit the 25-ton boiler about 7 p.m. The xplosion came about five minutes after he had stepped out of the boiler room into the hallway. "The jar from the explosion was tremendous," Clontz said. "It made the whole building shake." The blast also knocked another boiler out of operation, cracking the cement hull and ripping loose vent pipes. Clontz blamed a leaky gas valve for the blast. Neither he nor Phil Fields, 17, of 1910 W Park, a part-time custodian, was injured. The two were alone in the building at the time."
