Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Carl P. Smith couldn't conceal his pride Wednesday when he saw the three new flagpoles outside First Christian Church, 3700 N Walker. But beautiful as the gleaming, 30-foot standards, were to him, his thoughts irreversibly drifted back to a makeshift flag pole on a spot in North Africa 28 years ago. Smith, 2230 NW 17, will be present Sunday when the new church flagpoles - and American, Oklahoma and Christian flags - are dedicated in an 11:45 a.m. ceremony........He was and Air Force captain and supply officer, he said, and while he and some 400 troops were landed at Bizerte, their supplies went to Oran 0 several hundred miles away........Smith said love of the country's flag "seems to run in our family." he is a brother of Lee Allan Smith, 6033 Riviera, the moving force behind creation of Oklahoma City's Star and Strips Park and organizer of the annual July 4 "Stars and Strips Show" in State Fair Arena."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "For the fifth consecutive year, Thomas D. Turkey will enjoy his Thanksgiving dinner Thursday with the A. B. Cox family, 4621 NW 33 Terrace. This certainly had to make him the most relaxed turkey in Oklahoma on Wednesday as he strutted in the Cox backyard in anticipation of the feast. "He likes salad and celery the most," Cox said, "but he gets all of the table trimmings. He has the same Thanksgiving dinner we have." Tom, as he is called by the family, thus exists as one of the rarities of his breed - a turkey that looks forward to Thanlsgiving. Five years ago, Cox realized that his children had never seen a live turkey. "They thought they just came on a platter," explained the mother of Gregory, 9, Chris, 8, and Deborah, 6. So Cox went to Guthrie and on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, brought home the bird. The children immediatley named him tom"
