Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "A Raymond Gary expressway overpass being built south of Oklahoma City collapsed Saturday morning with 40 construction workers aboard. Eleven workers were taken to hospitals in Norman and Oklahoma City. None was reported to have been seriously injured. Witnesses said the construction crew fell about 16 feet. Many of them were half-buried in wet concrete. The structure, being built at the U.S. 77 and expressway interchange a half mile north of Moore, apparently collapsed without warning. It fell with a thundering roar. The construction crew had poured about 200 yards of concrete into forms to construct the floor of the overpass when it collapsed. Specifications called for 500 yards of concrete to be poured. An investigation was underway late Saturday to determine the reason for the collapse. Ray Smith, superintendent for Henryetta Construction Co., which has the overpass contract, said he thought there was too much weight for the structure's floor supports. Construction crew members voiced the same opinion, but another official of the company said he thought the mishap occurred because the concrete being poured Staurday was not setting properly."
