The back of the photograph proclaims, “Conservation Rotation Hay & Pasture. Blackwell Switchgrass. Mr. Brown planted a mixture of 3 lbs. Blackwell Switchgrass and 2 lbs. Sweet clover March 1957 on 75 acres of Class III land. On Mar. 1 he started grazing 80 head of steers in this field and grazed until May 20. Returned the 80 head to graze July 15 to Oct. 25 or total of 182 days total gain 28, 500 lbs. This shows same field July 2, 1959 with 96 big cattle and 16 calves have been grazing since June 1. Brown plans to graze until Aug. 1 then rest to get good regrowth and will return [the] Oct. 1 until sold.”
