Bermuda Grass Pasture
Photograph of second of a series of pictures of a 40-acre Bermuda grass pasture established in May and June, 1955 by sprigging and overseeded in July with 2 pounds of seed per acre. 100 pounds of 10-20-10 fertilizer per acre was used during each operation. Pasture was not used until September 3, when the owner turned in 175 head of cattle. Over 300 animan-unit-month grazing has been taken from this pasture, with considerable forage ramaining for winter cover and use.

Bindweed
Photograph of bindweed area at the edge of a wheat field. This area is uncontrolled and is in excellent condition. It is in a low spot where it received enough moisture to encourage growth. If not contolled it will spread rapidly into the ajoining wheat field and cause much damage to the wheat. It is resistant to poisons and can be controlled only by constant tillage. It will kill out other vegetation as it increases.

Photograph of a herd of 112 cattle grazing on a pasture consisting of Blackwell switchgrass and sweetclover planted on 75 acres of land. The back of the photograph proclaims, “Conservation Rotation Hay & Pasture. Blackwell Switchgrass. Mr. Brown planted a mixture of 3 lbs. Blackwell Switchgrass and 2 lbs. Sweet clover March 1957 on 75 acres of Class III land. On Mar. 1 he started grazing 80 head of steers in this field and grazed until May 20. Returned the 80 head to graze July 15 to Oct. 25 or total of 182 days total gain 28, 500 lbs. This shows same field July 2, 1959 with 96 big cattle and 16 calves have been grazing since June 1. Brown plans to graze until Aug. 1 then rest to get good regrowth and will return [the] Oct. 1 until sold.”
