Purpose and scope: This report is intended to identify many of the causes of saline-water intrusion into freshwater aquifers in Lee County, and to describe some of the effects of the intrusion on ground-water quality. Particular emphasis is placed on saline-water intrusion as related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of wells drilled primarily for water-supply, and to the plugging of wells that are no longer used.

From introduction: For the purpose of this evaluation, which is qualitative, and which is based on an arbitrary numerical ranking of the thickness and hydraulic conductivity of the different materials involved, the intent was to include only the relatively pure sand beds, which would most readily store and transmit appreciable quantities of water and the clay beds, which would most effectively retard the downward movement of water to the Floridian aquifer.

Report and geological survey. This report is on the effects of the domestic secondary-treated effluent used for irrigation of pastures near Lakeland, Florida. Includes a number of maps, tables, and other figures.

From purpose and scope: The purpose of this report is to describe the development and calibration of a regional digital model of the Floridian aquifer in the Tampa Bay area. This model can be used to provide regional analyses of the effects of present and proposed pumping from the Floridian aquifer.

Report and Geological Survey. This report investigates the water quality of the shallow aquifer in Palm Beach County, Florida. It includes several maps, geophysical logs, and tables.

Abstract: Extensive water withdrawal from Floridian aquifer in the urban Tampa Bay area has induced leakage from the overlying surficial aquifer adversely effecting the water table and lake levels. Artificial recharge could reduce the impact of these adverse effects. Four experiments were conducted to investigate possible recharge alternatives; sinkhole recharge, water-spreading, connector wells, and subsurface-tile drainage to a deep well. Experiments indicate that all four methods can be effective. However, the sinkhole recharge experiment moved the greatest potential for draining the surficial aquifer. Combinations of the four methods could be used where potential exists for downward movement of water and sufficient unsaturated aquifer for water storage.

From purpose and scope: The purpose of the investigation was to make a preliminary evaluation of the effects of the Faka Union Canal system on water levels in the Fakahatchee Strand. The evaluation includes more of a data collected specifically for the report as well as other data.
