The purpose of this investigation is to review the first four years of municipal government operation under the Administrator-Director form of government in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The basis of this investigation is the reconstruction and review of the political forces and circumstances operating in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and their impact on the Administrator-Director form of government. In addition to the above, an examination of the progress made by the current Administrator-Director form of government will be undertaken.

Marking the Butterfield: Retracing the Indian Territory Segment of the 1858-61 Butterfield Overland Mail Stagecoach Road

In 2018 the National Park Service recommended that the Butterfield Overland Mail Stagecoach Road be designated a National Historic Trail. Sixty years earlier, OHS staff marked this important trade and transit route with historical markers. This article retraces the road, describing the landmarks as they appeared on the 1958 trek as well as their present conditions.

Kansas City & Southern (KCS) 361

A photograph print showing the Kansas City & Southern (KCS) 361, 4-6-0, on a local passenger train, "at the Frisco-KCS depot in Ft. Smith, ARK. The tracks stub ended at the depot ahead of the engine. This train made two round trips daily to Spiro, Okla. to give Fort Smith a connection with the KCS mainline trains at Spiro. Most of the branch was in Oklahoma and ran through Braden Bottoms which were undercut by the Arkansas River about 1944. This line was abandoned and KCS got trackage rights over the Frisco from Poteau, Okla. via the Jensen tunnel to Fort Smith."
