Much of the letter is written as a poem discussing recent news, secession, and slavery, and there is a drawing in pencil of a bearded man on the last page. There is a note written in ink on the first page from Henry S. Moore to Charles. He says that he is mailing this letter along with another from J. B. Harris to him. The note is dated June 11, 1861 in Paris.
