Evening jacket of ivory of Battenburg cotton lace. 3/4 sleeves; knee length. Open front with two large lace flowers and hanging tassels; black velvet ties stem from the flowers and close with two hook & eyes. Matching black velvet sewn into neck edge. Embroidered retailer's(?) label at inside back neckline: "J. Hook / Detroit / Mich."

[Postcard of Tents and Mess Halls at Camp MacArthur]

Postcard of rows of wooden buildings and canvas tents. A printed note under the photo describes it: "Tents and rear of mess halls, Camp MacArthur, Waco, Texas." A handwritten note on the back of the postcard is addressed to Gertrude Odien in Detroit, Michigan and reads: "Dear Gertrude, Thank you so much for the cute [illegible]. I see you remembered my failing [illegible]. George came up to be married Xmas day. We all had a very nice time for 2 days. Nice and warm here now. Am very busy knitting yet."

Patent for a dirigible airship for aerial navigation, "to provide the balloon or gas bag with aeroplanes which serve to steady the balloon during the flight of the ship, and to increase the lifting power of the balloon when the ship is under motion, the arrangement being such as to enable said aeroplanes to be converted into a parachute, should the balloon or gas bag become deflated" (lines 20-28).
