Reverend Joelzie Howard Thompson
Joelzie Thompson was recommended as a priest for St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Muskogee, by Reverend Sanchez of Oklahoma . Reverend Thompson's father was a priest at Tulsa's Methodist Episcopal Church, so Reverend Thompson was interested in locating to Oklahoma. Because Oklahoma was a Missionary District dependent on the national office for salaries, Bishop Casady had to receive approval before hiring Reverend Thompson. Approved in 1933, Reverend Thompson served St. Philip's Episcopal Church from 1933 through 1936. After leaving the District, he served in many states, ending his clergy service at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, Raleigh, North Carolina.
