Cotton-Cleaner.

Patent for a cotton cleaner that provides "certain improvements in machines for cleaning lint cotton, and especially to provide a machine of this character which is intended to be arranged in the common lint flue, so as to occupy a position between the ordinary condenser in the lint room, and the nearest gin thereto" (lines 9-16). The cotton is thoroughly cleaned after leaving the gin, so that motes, stems, sticks, dry leaves, sand, &c. will be separated from the cotton.

Cotton-Cleaner.

Patent for a cotton-cleaner that has the flue leading from the gin to the condenser. It is an improvement previously granted to the inventor (No. 506,134), where "dust-laden air will be effectually prevented from passing through the cleaning drum of the cleaner and mingling again with the cleaned cotton which is fed to the condenser" (lines 16-20).

Method of Baling Cotton.

Patent for a new and improved method of baling cotton. This design "is to gin, condense, and bale the cotton in one continuous operation and to so effectually reduce the size of the resulting bale of cotton in this first, original, initial process as to make it of suitable dimensions and density for market or transportation by rail or sea to final destination" (lines 13-19). It consists "in compressing the same in the form of a continuous sheet, lapping said sheet before it has time to expand in the form of a bale, and subsequently applying pressure to expel the air from between the layers" (lines 29-33).

Method of Compressing and Baling Cotton Batting.

Patent for a new and improved method of baling cotton. This design "consist[s] in, first, folding the cotton in successive layers and slightly compressing the same at their folds; second, severing the web at intervals into sections; third, subjecting the sections successively and independently to compression; fourth, piling the sections; fifth, subjecting the mass thus formed to final compression, and sixth, binding or baling the same while under such compression" (lines 90-100).
