[Postcard of Home of Robert Louis Stevenson]
Postcard of a two story white building with a brown roof and thriving flour garden fenced in with a white picket fence. The edges describe the picture as "Home of Robert Louis Stevenson Monterey, California." The back of the postcard adds, "Robert Louis Stevenson House Here is one of America's most lovely shrines. It was known as the house of the Frenchman Jules Simoneon, with whom Stevenson made his home in 1879. Stevenson was attracted here from Europe by the woman who later became his wife, and from this old building he started making his many Peninsula jaunts. Stevenson was noted as an essayist, poet, and writer of boys' stories. It was here that he wrote "The Amateur Emigrant," "The Pavilion on the Links," "Treasure Island," and others. This literary memorial is said to be visited by more people annually than any other in the world, save only Shakespeare's home at Stratford-on-Avon." In cursive, the following is written, "Miss Ida ... McFaddin 880 Fifth Jheel Beaumont, Texas. Soul this ... place."
