Patent for a railway-joint in which "the chairs at the sides of the rails have a dovetail connection with a connecting block or tie extending through the webs of the rails" (lines 9-12). The invention has an improved construction, can be adjusted, and can be laterally removed from the rails.

Patent for a grease-trap that improves on a patent previously granted to the inventor (No. 506,690). The improvement includes providing "a strainer device for sewer traps, and the like, which will prevent any solid matter passing therethrough, and at the same time capable of being removed for the purpose of cleansing, repairs or other purposes" (lines 22-26).

Cotton-Cleaning Apparatus.

Patent for a cotton-cleaning apparatus made up of "a stationary foraminous case or drum having an inlet-opening in the upper side of its small end, a rotary shaft extending centrally through the case or drum and having a plurality of spirally-arranged at the large end of the foraminous case and having a discharge-pipe for conveying the cotton to the point where it is to be deposited or discharged - as, for instance, into gins or gin-feeders" (lines 9-19). The cotton goes in one end, the cotton is elevated, beater-arms move the cotton along, and fans drive the cotton to the gins.

Feeder for Printing-Presses.

Patent for a feeder for printing-presses that "takes one sheet of paper at a time from a pile on the feed-board and delivers it within reach of the nippers to the press, as straight and true as it laid on the feed-board" (lines 11-14). The feeder has an improved design with adjustable retaining plates, a feed-board, a guard bar with sleeves that slide on the bar, retaining plates, pins with thumb-screws, brushes, and gage-blocks.
