[Kendall-Bruce Literary Society, 1906-1907]

Photograph of members of the Kendall-Bruce Literary Society, North Texas State Normal College, 1906-7. The photograph shows sixty-six young men seated and standing in rows facing the camera. The Kendall-Bruce Literary Society was founded September 30, 1901, and named after Joel Sutton Kendall and William H. Bruce, who would each serve as President of North Texas State Normal College, and had been "beloved teachers". Photographic print mounted on dark card mount. Reverse of mount has transfer from another photographic image. Handwritten notes on reverse: "ST.7.96-2" and "Kendall-Bruce Literary Society 1906-07"

[Sgt. George V. Huffmon standing in front of the Monument to the Eight Medical Students in Old Havana]

Sgt. George V. Huffmon, nurse in the U. S. Army Medical Corps is pictured in front of the Memorial to the Eight Medicine Students in Old Havana, Cuba. The back of this picture postcard is stamped May 29, 1907, Guanajay, Cuba and it arrived in Denton on June 4th, 1907. The postcard is addressed to Miss Hallie Thurmon, of Denton, Texas. Sgt. Huffmon was stationed during the Second Occupation of Cuba, which lasted from September 1906 to February of 1909. On the right front of the postcard Sgt. Huffmon wrote, "Received your card today. I've answered your last letter. Will be glad to answer another soon." The right side says, "The Student's Monument at Havana, Cuba. Myself standing beside it. The rings is [sic] wreaths of artificial flowers. The black square has the words Innocents written on it."

Sgt. George V. Huffmon, a nurse in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, is pictured in front of the Memorial to the Eight Medicine Students in Old Havana, Cuba. This photo is a much clearer duplicate of another which appears on a picture postcard addressed to a Miss Hallie Thurmon of Denton, Texas. Sgt. Huffmon was stationed in Cuba during the Second Occupation of Cuba which lasted from Sept. of 1906 to Feb. of 1909.

John Bunyan Denton

Photograph of an artist's sketch depicting the death of John B. Denton in the Indian fight at Village Creek on May 24, 1841. Captain Denton and Captain Henry Stout, also shown in the sketch, were leading an advanced scouting party when they were ambushed on Village Creek near modern Fort Worth. Denton was killed and Stout severely wounded.
