Hand-Book of Northern Texas
Overview of the north Texas region encompassing Collin, Denton, Fannin, and Grayson Counties for potential visitors, including information about the landscape and climate, the farming and ranching industries, notable persons and businesses, and other information about the area. A description appeared in The Sunday Gazetteer [Denison, TX, Dec. 19, 1886, p.3] which described it: "This book is a quarto volume handsomely gotten up in pamphlet form, and elaborately illustrated with wood engravings. It gives short biographical sketches of prominent men of North Texas, and also pen and pencil pictures of various stock farms, business houses and private residences of the cities and surrounding country of Denison, Sherman Gainesville, Denton, Honey Grove, McKinney, etc., as well as the more important ones of the Indian Nation." Another article that appeared in the Denton Record-Chronicle on Feb. 19, 1927, section 9, p.1, hints to the provenance of the library's copy. It states that, the C. C. Bell household had a copy because "Bell is one of the land-owners who paid at the rate of about $30 per photo to be represented in the 40-page bulletin." The C. C. Electricity in Rural Areas of North Texas
"This study shows three things: (1) a precedent for the expenditure of public funds to teach electricity in our public high schools has already been established by the school system in the larger school systems of Texas, (2) the rural families living on electrified farms in the North Texas area want instruction of this type given to the boys and girls in their communities, and (3) both the rural people and the professional people of the North Texas area believe that instruction dealing with the use of electricity and electrical equipment had spread until by 1935 more than twenty-one million homes, about eighty percent of the total in America at that time, were electrified, only eleven American farms out of every 100 had central-station electricity. An Evaluation of the Environmental Impact of Recreation Facilities Expansion at Lake Ray Roberts State Park, Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch Units
This report "presents the results and recommendations of a two month investigation conducted at Lake Ray Roberts State Park," as "part of the ongoing effort of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to manage and conserve the natural resources of the state and provide...enjoyable recreation areas to the citizens of Texas." The study proposes the expansion of the Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch Units of the Lake Ray Roberts State Park to accommodate the surrounding counties' population growth (p. 6).
