Japanese Kasuri (woven panel). Combination of warp and weft cotton double dyed kasuri (ikat) create bold geometric pattern - fish created solely by weft kasuri. This type of combined ikats is known as 'e-gasuri' - delicately drawn fish motif alternating with bold geometric blocks. Indigo dyed Kasuri panels were woven in narrow strips of approximately 13 " W because of the size of the loom. They were then sewn into kimono, futonji (futon covers), zabuton (sitting cushions), furoshiki (traditional Japanese wrapping cloth), and noren (room dividers).

Fitted, slightly empire bodice with moderate, round, bound neckline. Flared, full-length raglan sleeves of silk chiffon. The sleeves are slit at the underarm seam from the elbow to the wrist. Center back zipper closure from neck to hip line with a single hook & eye at the neckline. Over skirt secured at waistline with four suspended, covered snaps. Slightly raised empire waist seam with semi-fitted, full length skirt. Ombre velvet belt in shades of yellow/tan to pale green. The belt is secured center front with a single hook & loop, and the closure is disguised by a bow with tails. Chiffon over skirt has center front lapped opening from waist to hem. Interview with Howard Yergin, an employee of Caltex Petroleum Corporation from New York City. Yergin discusses his career with the company, including his education and Army service, hiring by Caltex, move to Shanghai in 1948 and business conducted there, businessmen who helped reestablish Caltex's Chinese market after WWII, fleeing China in 1949, attempts at recouping capital from the Chinese government, operations in Hong Kong, changes in the oil market over the years, corporate financing, internal reorganization, OPEC, Persian Gulf economies, South African operations, the tanker fleet, and the company's move from New York to Dallas.

Interview with Tom Blaylock, an Army Air Corps WWII veteran and POW from Dallas, Texas. Blaylock was stationed in the Philippines during the Japanese invasion of December 1941, was captured, forced to partake in the Bataan Death March, and was interned at several major POW camps in the Philippines before transferring to a coal mine camp at Omine-machi, Yamaguchi, Japan.

Interview with James C. Venable regarding his experiences in the military and as a prisoner of war of the Japanese during World War II. Mr. Venable was captured while serving in the Marine Corps on Wake Island.

Interview with O.R. Sparkman, a Marine WWII veteran and POW from Dallas, Texas. Stationed in China before the war, Sparkman was captured in December 1941 by the Japanese in Beijing and interned at various camps in occupied China and Korea before finishing the war at Hakodate, Japan.
