Patent for a simple, inexpensive, and compact check-punch that can be operated by one hand and doesn't take much power to operate. The machine consists of two movable members, "one of which carries all of the male and the other all of the female dies, said members being so related that when moved relatively to each other in one direction all the male dies move as a single member...and enter the female dies, and when moved in the opposite direction all of said male dies are withdrawn" (lines 12-20).

Letter from H. J. Bardwell to his cousin, John Patterson Osterhout, regarding their family tree. Bardwell had been spending his time in the library trying to trace the Osterhout family back to the first settler and shared what he had found so far. He asked John for clarification on what he had told Bardwell about the family before and hoped to hear back soon.

Letter and advertisements from the Chicago Sentinel, requesting a list of local voters who will favor free silver candidates like William Jennings Bryan in the 1900 presidential election. Included are some cards advertising L. D. Reynolds book "National Platforms and Political History." The envelope is also included.

Clear glass axe or hatchet, made at the Libbey Glass Company display as a souvenir of the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition. One side of blade with relief inscription "World's Fair / 1893"; other side of blade with relief portrait of George Washington, and inscription "The Father Of His Country". Handle with relief inscription near base: "Libbey Glass Co / Toledo, Ohio."

Patent for a journal-bearing that has an open spring ring that contains the journal and antifriciton devices in its center. The spring ring contracts to its minimum circumference when the journal and antifriciton devices are worn out. There is also a bearing-ring seat that allows contractions "without altering the disposition of the load" (lines 61-62).
