Soil Conservation Districts, Members and Goals

Photograph of Soil Conservation Service [SCS] Personnel. Selected SCS personnel attending a day of in-service agronomic training at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Ardmore, Oklahoma. Area Conservationists, with personnel from Areas V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, were in attendance. Training conducted by the Agricultural Division staff of the Foundation. Emphasis was placed on soil and crop management problems of the Cross Timbers [referring to strip of land, a mix of prairie, savanna and woodland, that runs across southeastern Kansas, central Oklahoma and central Texas] with discussion on such subjects as: Breeding, and the Selection of Forage Grasses and Legumes; The Use of Fertilizers in Establishing Pasture Grasses; Tour of Headquarters Farm; Tour of Biomedical Division Laboratories; and Tour of Lone Grove Farm studying small grain variety tests, forage evaluation on Cross Timber soils; Deep Plowing Experiments; Cropping Systems and Fertilization; Pasture Establishment and Management; and Brush and Timber Control. Arrangements were made through Dave Rykar, in charge of Public Relations for the Foundation. OK-298-2.
