Abstract: Structure drilling under Contract No. AT(05-l)-120 was begun May 13, 1951, and was suspended June 30, 1951, at Red Rock, Arizona with the completion of 12 holes and 2,390.5 feet of drilling. No mineralization was disclosed in the widely spaced holes. The structure and rock composition was found favorable for a potential drilling area.

From abstract: Uranium assays of all the samples collected by the Geological Survey from the Chattanooga shale in east-central Tennessee and southern Kentucky from 1947 to 1949 are assembled here, and conclusions are drawn concerning the distribution of the uranium. The 1108 assays from 80 localities provide reasonably reliable information on the stratigraphic and regional variations of the uranium content.

Abstract: "By using gaseous samples in neutron transmission experiments the total cross section of tritium has been measured over the energy region from 0.3 to 7.0 Mev and at the following additional energies: 14.1, 18.0, 19.1, and 20.0 Mev. A plot of cross section versus neutron energy shows a broad maximum with the greatest value of 2.5 barns at 3.7 Mev. Cross sections for helium were measured in the energy region from 1 to 3 Mev and for both hydrogen and helium at 14.1 Mev."

Introduction: "The carrier (pyroelectric) concentration method is commonly used in the spectrographic analysis of plutonium metal. This report describes work which lead to substantial improvements in accuracy, precision and ease with which the analysis is made. Included are data from analyses of plutonium metal by the original and the improved carrier methods, and the cupferron extraction method."

Introduction: "During the early planning of the multicurie cells at Hanford it was decided that a slave type manipulator would be necessary to perform the experiments for which the cells were being designed. The design required steel roofs for installation through a port hole in the face. Technical Services Equipment Development began developing the proposed manipulator in January 1951 by making a study of those existing at that tune. None met the requirements which had been established; therefore, the design of a special manipulator was started immediately."

From introduction: The purpose of the mapping was to study the habits of the uranium minerals with relation to the geologic features of the White Canyon area, The work has been done by the U. S. Geological Survey on behalf of the Atomic Energy Commission. The Tiger claim is recommended for exploration by diamond drilling to obtain geologic information on the trend, length, depth, and width of the scour channel, and the relationship of uranium and copper minerals to the Shinarump-filled channel and to fractures.

During the last year we have been attempting to increase our understanding of the significance of the various dilution methods used to measure the extra-cellular fluid. When the dilution methods were first proposed to obtain a measure of the extracellular fluid volume, it was hoped that an agent could be found which would distribute uniformly and exclusively throughout this compartment, which would approach equilibrium rapidly, and which could be measured by simple and accurate procedures. We have turned our attention chiefly to the methods themselves using dogs and non-edematous adults as subjects.

Introduction: "When uranium slugs are irradiated in the Hanford piles, one of the many substances formed is U-237. It arises primarily from the reaction: U-238 (n,2n) U-237. This uranium isotope is a beta and gamma emitter with a half-life of 6.7 days. Because it is isotopic with U-238, it accompanies the uranium recovered by the Redox Process, and its concentration is, of course, not diminished by the fission-product decontamination cycles. As a consequence, the maximum total decontamination of irradiated uranium which can be achieved depends upon the quantity of U-237 present in the processed uranium."

From abstract: The Permian marine phosphorite deposits of the western United States were laid down in the Phosphoria formation and its partial stratigraphic equivalents over an area of about 135,000 square miles in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. The deposits in the eastern part of the field lie on the western margin of the structurally simple North American craton.

Abstract: During parts of July, August, and September 1951, a reconnaissance was conducted in parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho in search of new deposits of uranium-bearing carbonaceous rocks. One significant uranium occurrence was found, the Fall Creek deposit, Bonneville County, Idaho. Several additional localities were discovered that contain uranium in concentrations many times that normally found in carbonaceous rocks.
