Abstract: The southwestern part of the Colorado Plateau province was studied to test results from experimental simulation of Colorado Plateau type uranium deposits and to search out additional agents influencing uranium precipitation which might be investigated experimentally.

From abstract: The Legin group area comprises five privately owned claims, nine Government claims, and some public land. The area is in parts of secs. 28 and 29, T. 43 N., R. 19 W., New Mexico principal meridian, San Miguel County, Colo. It is about 45 miles from the Government mill at Monticello, Utah, and 50 miles from the Vanadium Corporation of America mill at Naturita, Colo. The Legin group area has yielded a total production of more than 18,000 short tons of carnotite ore that averaged 0.32 percent U30 and 2.5 percent V 205 . Most of this production was accomplished during the years from 1935 to 1944, and from 1949 to October 1951.

From abstract: Six diamond-core holes totaling 2, 201 feet were drilled by the U. S. Bureau of Mines under contract to the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission at the Old Leyden coal mine, Jefferson County, Colo. The holes were spotted on the basis of geologic mapping by the U. S. Geological survey and were drilled to explore the lateral and downward extent of a uranium-bearing coal and the associated carnotite deposits in the adjacent sandstone. The data obtained from the diamond-core holes helped to explain the geology and structural control of the deposit. The uranium is most abundant in a coal bed that in places has been brecciated by shearing, and then altered to a hard, dense, and silicified rock. From introduction: The Martha E prospect, in Spring Gulch about three and one-half miles southwest of Idaho Springs, Colo. (fig. 1), is on a claim, originally called the Daisy Freese, which was first prospected by the Stanley Mines. The occurrence of radioactive minerals in the adit was called to the attention of the U. S. Geological Survey in 1950 by the owners of the claim. The Survey's Trace Elements Section Washington Laboratory identified metatorbernite, autunite, and sooty pitchblende.
