A few species have become weed pests in this country, and it is to a discussion of the control of these weedy ferns that this bulletin is devoted. Letter from the Congressional Delegations of Maine and New Hampshire to Donald Rumsfeld regarding the closure or realignment of military bases in Maine.

"The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Pease Air Force Base (PAFB), New Hampshire, during 14-18 August 1972. The inspection for effects of frost action was performed on 1 June 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

From abstract: This data release presents preliminary results of ground water, stream sediment, and stream water reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Portland 10 x 20 quadrangle. Stream sediment and stream water samples were collected from small streams at 1094 sites for a nominal density of one site per 13 square kilometers (five square miles) in rural areas. Ground water samples were collected at 560 sites for a nominal density of one site per 26 square kilometers (ten square miles). Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, and for uranium and 9 other elements in ground water and surface water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps. Statistical summaries of data and a brief description of results are given. A generalized geologic map and a summary of the geology of the area are included.

"The means of increasing the number of birds about our homes are few and simple. They comprise adequate protection and the provision of suitable nesting places, food, and water.... This bulletin [recommends] practicable methods of attracting birds about homes [in the northeastern United States]. Especial attention will be given to the value of fruit-bearing shrubs and trees." -- title page. From Introduction: "The Glens Falls NTMS Quadrangle of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire (Fig. 1) was evaluated to identify and delineate areas and geologic units that have characteristics favorable for uranium deposits. All geologic environments in the quadrangle were studied by surface methods and, where possible, were inferred to a depth of 1500 m."
