The following report is the first volume documenting the radiometric and magnetic data taken during the month of September, 1979, by EG&G geoMetrics in the states of Michigan and Wisconsin in the quadrangles: Alpena, Blind River, Cheboygan, Escanaba, and Sault Marie quadrangles.

This report is one part of the second volume containing data on quadrangles of Michigan and Wisconson. This volume contains the detailed geologic summary, interpretation report, standard deviation maps, pseudo-contour maps, interpretation map, flight line and geologic base map, individual corrected profiles, computer map unit histograms and statistical tables for the Cheboygan and Alpena quadrangles.

This volume contains the detailed geologic summary, interpretation report, standard deviation maps, pseudo-contour maps, interpretation map, flight line and geologic base map, individual corrected profiles, computer map unit histograms and statistical tables for the Sault Sainte Marie and Blind River quadrangles.

A high sensitivity airborne radiometric and magnetic survey of the Rice Like, Iron Mountain, Eau Claire and Green Bay 1:250,000 NMTS Quadrangles within the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. A total of 10,340 line miles of high sensitivity radiometric and magnetic data were collected within these quadrangles. Traverse lines were flown at a spacing of 3.125 miles in an east/west direction at a 18.375 miles seperation. All data were collected utilizing a fixed wing aircraft and over 3,500 cubic inches of Nal crystal detector. Magnetometer data were collected utilizing a high sensitivity proton magnetometer. Data were recorded digitally at 1.0 second intervals aboard the aircraft. Navigation was performed using both visual and doppler techniques. All data presented in this report as corrected profiles of all radiometric variables, magnetic data, radar and barometric altimeter data, air temperature and airborne bismuth contributions. Radiometric data presented are corrected for Comptron Scatter, altitude dependence and atmospheric Bismuth. These data are also presented on microfiche, and digital magnetic tapes. In addition, anomaly maps and inerpretation maps are presented in relating known geology or soil distribution to the corrected radiometric magnetic data.

Partial abstract: "The study consisted of field and laboratory investigations, construction evaluation, and geotechnical and structural analyses to determine the cause(s) of distress and failure of a 2600-ft section of 12-ft 9-in. diameter concrete-lined sanitary sewer tunnel in the Detroit, Mich., area. [...] The report includes summaries of all pertinent construction records, results of all pertinent past and current field and laboratory tests on construction and geotechnical materials, and detailed geotechnical and structural analyses based on observed conditions and measured parameters."

From purpose and scope: The purpose of this report is to compare and evaluate four methods of estimating flood-frequency skew coefficients for Michigan. These methods are based on use of (1) the generalized skew map of the United States, (2) maps showing lines of equal mean skew of Michigan, (3) mean regional station skews, and (4) skew-prediction equations.

From introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey, at the request of the U.S. Air Force, began an investigation of geologic and hydrologic conditions at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in September 1979. The investigation was prompted by the discovery that an underground storage tank containing trichloroethylene (TCE) had leaked, contaminating Base water-supply wells. Subsequent information suggested that the trichloroethylene had moved off-Base.

A report regarding evaluations done of the Ashland Quadrangle to find favorability for uranium occurrences in the quadrangles geologic environments. "No favorable areas could be identified or delineated on the basis of available data, and it is concluded that geologic environments in the Ashland Quadrangle are unfavorable for uranium."
