The system plans, construction, integration and test, and performance evaluation are discussed for the photovoltaic power supply at the Newman Power Station in El Paso, Texas. The system consists of 64 parallel-connected panels, each panel containing nine series-connected photovoltaic modules. The system is connected, through power monitoring equipment, to an existing DC bus that supplies uninterruptible power to a computer that controls the power generating equipment. The site is described and possible environmental hazards are assessed. Site preparation and the installation of the photovoltaic panels, electrical cabling, and instrumentation subsystems are described. System testing includes initial system checkout, module performance test, control system test. A training program for operators and maintenance personnel is briefly described, including visual aids. Performance data collection and analysis are described, and actual data are compared with a computer simulation. System drawings are included. (LEW)

Patent for improvements in tube-mills (employed for ore and other substances) which is meant to help support and drive rotating drums or cylinders of the mills allowing for more full appearances.

Patent for "an apparatus for use in connection with a well, whereby the well-bucket will be automatically elevated and emptied into a trough by the weight of the cattle that may come to the well to drink, the apparatus be ing particularly designed for use in the Western countries, where large numbers of cattle come to each well in herds" (lines 16-23).

Patent for "improvements in puncture healing compounds". A beeswax, paraffin, rosin, and linseed oil mixture will be injected into the innertube or other air compartment of a "pneumatic tire" and will repair any punctures without deteriorating the material of the inner tube.

Patent for a reeling device that helps tie both mail matter and packages of articles in an efficient manner. It can be used on various sized mail and packages with minimum effort using tying cord and a clamping device.

Patent for new and improved sinking hydraulic piles. This design has for its object "the sinking of wooden or other piles in quicksand or ground in which the lateral pressure upon the piles practically prevents their being driven beyond a certain depth. To that end [the design] make[s] use of a jet of water supplied at the entering-point of the pile, and in connection therewith [the design] also use[s] weight applied at the upper end of the pile" (lines 8-16).

Patent for a head rest support for placing a barbers chair head rest on while it is not in use.

Patent for a journal-bearing that has an open spring ring that contains the journal and antifriciton devices in its center. The spring ring contracts to its minimum circumference when the journal and antifriciton devices are worn out. There is also a bearing-ring seat that allows contractions "without altering the disposition of the load" (lines 61-62).
