According to the label on the back of the photo, 27 cars are participating in the race photographed and it was #8 driven by Scott Sharp that won, barely finishing in front of Robbie McGehee. Sharp's car is visible in this photo as the red and yellow car closely following behind #14.

Aerial photograph of NASCAR Winston Cup drivers racing before the DIRECTV 500 race held at Texas Motor Speedway on April 2, 2000. The bottom third of the photo is filled by cozens of stands packed with people watching the race below them, only a tall fence lien separating the onlookers from the road. The middle third of the photo is occupied by the racing circuit, its roads wrapping around large patches of grass with logos like that of DIRECTV, Albertsons, and Sprint painted onto the grass. The cars of the race all speed along the part of the circuit closest to the stands of people watching the vehicles. The top third of the photo is filled with parked vehicles including large trucks and cars, plus a lien of tents that sit in front of the far side of the racing circuit. According to the label on the back of the photo, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race, making it his first Winston Cup victory.

According to a label on the back of the photo, the crash depicted was one of 12 cautions that occurred during the race, which resulted in Nadeau (#25) not completing the race.
