The runaway

Little Julia, resident of New York City, is taken to see her uncle's farm. Exposed to fields, animals, and the open spaces, she regrets having to return to the city. Back home, she wants to run away and return to her uncle's farm. Against her mother's orders, she does run away one day, but is found and brought home, and learns never to disobey her mother again.

Newspaper clipping with two articles, found in a 1924 edition of Heidi. One article is an announcement of Mrs. Weaver's upcoming lecture for the librarians of the Dallas Public Schools; the other is an account of a meeting of the Garden Club held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Weaver. Seperated from volume, the newspaper clipping is shelved in Object Files, Rare Book and Texana Collections.

Heidi

Early edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri. The cover of the book is bound in blue cloth with an embossed logo for the J.M. Dent & Sons Company on the front cover. On the spine of the book is the title and author of the book along with a floral design embossed in gold. There is also a black stripe painted over the spine with white writing. The cover page of the book are beautiful block prints of berries, vines, and fairies. On the left page is a quotation from Shakespeare reading, "This is fairy gold, boy; and twill prove so". On the right side is the and author of the book, a quotation from the medieval play Everyman, "everyman, I will go with thee, and be thy guide, In thy most need to go by thy side." Also included are the names for the publishers for London and New York and another wood block print of a full bodied fairy standing in a garden. Of the pages inside the book include illustrations of Heidi hugging a goat, A boy in a hat, a landscape of the countryside, and three flowers.

Early edition of Heidi by Johanna Spyri. The cover is made of a light gray fabric with illustrations in green and dark gray. The illustration is of Heidi, a young girl in a green dress, playing barefoot with gray goats on a mountain. On the ground were small rocks and patches of grass. In the background are more mountains. On the spine is the title , the names of the author and publishing company, and an illustration of a goat standing on its hind legs against a backdrop of mountains. Attached to the spine is a red and gold striped strip of paper reading "GCW" for the owner's name, Gustine Courson Weaver. On the inside cover is Gustine Courson Weaver's bookplate. The book plate has an illustration of a room with a woman sitting in a high backed chair resting on a rug in front of a large doorway looking out into a path leading up to another building. A man is walking down the path towards the door. On either side of the doorway are shelves, one with books and the other with dolls. Around the edges of the bookplate is a vine design.
