Blue River Bottom Land

Photograph of Blue River bottom land. Cleared in 1956. Was wet, poorly drained timber land near wortless pasture before clearing and planting to midland bermuda and clover. Planted to bermuda 1957, 500 acre ranch has 200 acres on cultivation. 1959-ran 135 head grown cows and 500 sheep and offsprings. Uses vetch and clover for sown pasture. 10-on hill, 11 on bottom, all was cleared.

Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Photograph of pasture with heavy timber in the background. The grassed area was timbered until 1956. 300 acres were cleared to midland bermuda and clover. 2000 acres make up the ranch. The cleared land after planting Bermuda grass increased the ranch's carrying capacity by 30 to 40%. OK-1050-7.

Planted to Bermuda grass in 1957. 500 acre ranch has 200 acres under cultivation. By 1959, it had 135 grown cows and 500 sheep and offspring, using vetch and clover for sown pasture. 10 on hill. 11 on bottom was cleared. OK-1050-10.

Full Permanent Pool
