Inauguration of the Santa Fe Railroad Line

Inauguration of the Santa Fe Railroad Line linking Dallas, Denton, and Chicago. It was raining, and the photo was taken in north Dallas, near Garland. Among the men heading the groundbreaking ceremony were Railroad president Fred Gurley who is at the podium, Jerome Crossman, president of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce is standing to his left, E. W. Morrison, a Denton businessman who strongly supported the line, Dallas Mayor R. L. Thornton, and Denton Mayor J. L. Yarbrough.

Page from a scrapbook with two photos that appeared in the Sanger Courier's "Looking Back" issue. The first photo is of the owners of Collins-Andrews Dry Good Store which was reported to be the first dry goods store in Sanger. The second photo is of one of the early Post Masters of Sanger, H. D. Green, along with his family and other postal workers in front of a post office in early Sanger, Texas. Mr. Green was appointed Post Master in 1899 and reappointed at different times until 1925. At the bottom right middle is a photograph of Jesse P. Smith on his horse Snooper. The photograph in the right-hand corner is of Dottie Mae McBride, Otis McBride, Alene Duncan, and Reba Duncan on a horse.

Announcement about the schedule, tuition, and courses of Denton School in Denton, Texas in the year 1884. The announcement also contains a list of faculty and information about the city of Denton. Denton's first public school began on March 17 and ended on July 4. The first session had 425 students. [A History of the Denton Independent School District: a centennial project / by the centennial committee, 1985] The name Lee Preston is written in pen on the back of the announcement. Lee Preston was a teacher and later, mayor of Denton.
