Oral History Interview with Alonso Martinez on July 29, 2016
Alonso speaks about growing up in San Felipe and the segregated nature of Del Rio generally. He also speaks a great deal about migrant farm work and following the seasonal harvest. He speaks about his time in the West Texas cotton fields and speaking Spanish in Anglo schools out in West Texas. He talks a little bit about the 1969 Palm Sunday march--he wasn't a participant but he talks about the march. He also talks about the importance of education he received from Bambi Cardenas and Aurelio Montemayor who were both educators at San Felipe in the late 1960s. All in all, this is a great interview that has tons of useful information on Del Rio, San Felipe, and Alonso's life story.

Oral History Interview with Jaime Martinez, July 1, 2016
Jaime Martinez was a Civil rights activist and farm worker advocate from San Antonio. Martinez served as the Chairman of the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation board and was a lifetime advocate for civil rights. Martinez grew up on the West side San Antonio and attended Lanier High School. In his interview, he talked about his life as a labor organizer, having a street named after him, and what it takes to be an organizer. He died in July of 2017.

Uriegas talks about growing up in Uvalde, being run out of Uvalde as a young man, and finishing high school in Del Rio. He talks about how Anglos in Uvalde used to turn the gas off the "Mexican" side of town to preserve pressure for the Anglo side when the weather was cold. He talks about the constant pressure that discriminatory treatment has on an individual's psyche. He talks about MAYO in Uvalde and serving on Uvalde city council. The most interesting part of the interview is him talking about him running VISTA MMP.

Oral History Interview with Raul Valdez on June 13, 2016.
Mr. Valdez grew up in Del Rio, but also spent time in California and San Antonio. While attending high school in Del Rio, he and his rock band were involved in the Palm Sunday rally. He was later drafted into the military and sent to Vietnam. Mr. Vasquez attended A&I, where he honed his art and took part in activism. Throughout the interview, Mr. Valdez talks about the role of art (visual arts and music) in Chicano activism.

Jovita Casarez was born in Acuña, across the border from Del Rio. After marrying, she and her family settled in Del Rio and started migrating to many different parts of the United States to work in the fields. After her husband was injured on the job in the 1970s, the family had to move to Madison, Wisconsin so that he could receive treatment. There, she started her career as an organizer after being hired by a farmworkers' rights organization. Upon their return to Del Rio, the Cazares established in San Felipe; a seasoned activist, Jovita became deeply enmeshed in local politics and grassroots activism. Cazares talks at length about several events that impacted her life, including the 1998 floods that destroyed her house, the death of her daughter and other personal and family struggles. In the mid 1990s, Cazares was the plaintiff in Cazares v. Val Verde County, a lawsuit that challenged the practice of allowing former Laughlin AFB personnel from submitting absentee ballots for local elections.

Oral History Interview with Teresa Perez-Wiseley, June 9, 2016
Ms. Perez-Wiseley was raised in the west side of Corpus Christi. She witnessed some acts of racial and class discrimination, but was not directly subjected to it during her youth. While she was very involved in community and student affairs, she did not become involved in the Chicano movement until she attended UT in the early 70s. After being excluded from leadership position in the Young Democrats, she joined the Raza Unida Party and was a member of MAYO at UT. After college, she worked for the city of Austin and became heavily involved in American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (ASCFME), eventually becoming a full-time organizer. During the interview, Ms. Perez-Wiseley discusses race relations in Corpus Christi, her career in labor organizing (including her own struggles against inequities in pay within ASCFME) and her current involvement in politics.

Oral History Interview with David Van, June 24, 2016
Mr. Van Os grew up in segregated Kilgore, in East Texas; the first part of the interview is spent in his recollections of the era, including the eventual integration of the schools in the mid-to-late 1960s. He attended UT Austin, where he became involved in SDS and joined several activities that involved African American and Mexican American activists. While studying law, he did an internship with the law firm of David Richards, who had been working on voting rights litigation earlier that decade. After graduating, he worked as a union-side labor lawyer and represented the Austin chapter of the NAACP in a lawsuit to do away with at-large place system for city council elections. In addition to his early activism and work in civil rights litigation, Mr. Van Os talks about the relationship of racial and economic justice and the role of labor unions in ensuring both.
