He also taught at St. Mary's Law School and authored two books for law enforcement officers. The couple have three children, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his career, the interview discusses his parents, growing up in the Mexican-American community of Kerrville, and his grandparents lives in Del Rio and Villa Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico.
