Transcript of an oral interview with Dr. Adanto D'Amore. D'Amore describes his education briefly at Ohio State University where he graduated from medical school. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Army Air Corps, where he examined candidates for jump school. He eventually was assigned as flight surgeon to the 19th Bomb Group and sent with them to Clark Field in the Philippines in October, 1941. After the Japanese invaded, D'Amore and elements of the 19th Bomb Group moved to Mindanao. After the surrender, D'Amore went with fellow prisoners of war to the Davao Internment Camp. Eventually, he was relocated to Cabanatuan where he spent 12 months before leaving aboard a hell ship for Omori Prison Camp in Japan. Upon being liberated after the war, D'Amore was sent to Okinawa, Manila and finally San Francisco. D'Amore also discusses the condition of the returning POWs.

Suit of purple silk and beads; fabric is folded and stitched to create ½" folds pressed upwards creating horizontal rows; tiny beads stitched vertically in rows 2" apart; every other row of beads is stitched on horizontal folded rows that have been turned down; a) jacket has ½" band at neckline; zipper at CF; waist length; armhole princess seams; 3/4 length sleeves; purple lining; Designer's label at center back neckline: "Oscar de la Renta" b) skirt is knee-length with inserted pleats sewn into waistband; left side zipper with hook-and-bar at waistband; unlined No labels in skirt.

Evening dress of black velvet and beads and blue silk. Black velvet bodice has wide neckline. Full length blue silk skirt flares from the waist; waistline has heavy black beads that extend 1" above the waist and 3" below. Waistline darts; Long sleeves. Center back invisible zipper; black lining on bodice; blue lining on skirt.

Suit of white and blue cotton/polyester blend. a) Jacket fabric has slub yarns with very large slubs pulled and clustered around neckline, CF, hem and sleeve hems. Outside edges bordered in ribbon and lace trim. Round neckline; no closure; bracelet-length sleeves with flared and vented cuffs. Lining of white silk jacquard with "Oscar de la Renta" logo. b) Knee-length skirt has ½" waistband; ribbon and lace trim at hems and seams of 8 gores. Gores create 3" slits at their seams; side zipper; Lining of white silk jacquard with "Oscar de la Renta" logo.

He discusses enlisting in the military while living in Abilene, Texas and getting sent to civil service for the Army before being offered to join the Navy. In the Navy he went through basic training in San Diego, California, then to St. Louis Electrical School and finally through firefighting training in Rhode Island. After he completed his training Mr. Riley was assigned to the U.S.S. Lake Champain, CB 39 and went on a shakedown cruise where 16 crewmen were lost for various reasons. In the Navy he was an electrician aboard the ship and dealt with setting up electricity onshore. He also dealt with Prisoners of War, being put in charge of a group of them to build a swimming pool. He was in New York City on temporary leave when the news of the wars end was released by President Truman. Mr. Voris also talks about serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico.
