Texas Public School Library Media Specialists' Perceptions of the Use of the Internet in their Schools

With the advent of the 21st century, technological innovations are transforming the face of education and the school library media center. One of these significant developments is the ability to communicate through the Internet. The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of Texas public school library media specialists who are active Internet users about their utilization of the Internet, and how their efforts in implementing and supervising Internet access in their school library media centers impact the Texas public schools that they serve. A survey instrument of Likert items was developed that queried these public school library media specialists for their perceptions of Internet use in their schools. MANOVA was the chosen statistical measure for this study. An initial electronic mail-out to 1,232 Texas public school library media specialists (K-12) with Internet addresses were contacted to participate in this study. After a time frame of one month, 196 Texas school library media specialists e-mailed the researcher, confirming their willingness to be a survey participant. Transgenerational Patterns of Adult Attachment Relationships

The purpose of the study is to examine adult attachment relationships among a group of college students and their parents. Two attachment hypotheses were tested: The mental model hypothesis for attachments with parents and romantic partners and the compensation hypothesis for attachment with God. Hypothesis 1 attempted to determine if there was agreement between parents and children about a self-reported attachment style. Support was found as students and parents had a significantly higher level of agreement when reporting a secure style of attachment between them, with sons being significantly highest. Hypothesis 2 examined agreement on attachment style between generations: Children's report of attachments to parents and parents' report of attachment to their parents. Results indicated that parents' reporting a secure style of attachment to their parents was significantly higher with their same gender parents. Hypothesis 3 produced two 15 x 15 correlation matrices including measures of romantic attachment and religiousness for children and parents. In general, further validity for measures used is provided in numerous expected correlations. Anxious and avoidant romantic attachment styles and desperate love were significantly positively related and were often negatively related to a secure style of attachment. Correlational Study of the UNT Neuropsych-Screen, the MMPI and Time among Chronic Pain Patients

Although many theorists have speculated that chronic pain may be linked to some sort of central neuropsychological integration deficit, a review of the current literature reveals no empirical support for this theory. This study attempts to assess the severity, if any, of neuropsychological deficits in chronic pain subjects by using a neuropsychological screen developed at the University of North Texas. Also, presented are studies of correlations between the UNT Neuropsych-screen and the MMPI. the Dallas Pain Questionnaire (DPQ), the Dallas Pain Drawing CDPD), and time since injury in order to assess any possible relationships. The subjects in this study consist of 100 volunteers. Of these subjects, 74 were patients of the Spinal and Chronic Pain Center at Medical Arts Hospital in Dallas, Texas and represented the clinical population. The remaining 26 subjects were staff volunteers from the hospital . The results of the study indicate significant differences between chronic pain subjects and non-pain subjects across many areas of neuropsychological functioning, as well as other significant correlations among many of the variables. The implications of this study are elaborated upon, in the discussion section, in detail along with limitations and future research directions.

Budgetary Decision-Making in the Texas Legislature

The government of any state has the responsibility of providing for the health, safety, welfare, education, and protection of its citizens. To accomplish these goals, states have created elaborate and complex administrative organizations staffed by thousands of bureaucrats. The increased demands of the citizens of each state upon their state governments for better education, highways, and increased protection are reflected both in the expansion of the agencies created to provide these services and, in turn, in requests for funds in ever increasing amounts to expand the scope of the services. The ability of a state to fund each agency's request is definitely limited; no state is sufficiently wealthy to grant every request. Rather, a state must make some judgment in the distribution of its limited resources (money) among competing and demanding sources. This requires planning and is called budgeting, which one writer has defined as "one of the major processes by which the use of public resources is planned and controlled."

Interdependency Within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area: A Test for the Determination of Megalopolitan Status

The tendency for an increasing number of people to live, work, and play in metropolitan areas is perhaps the most distinguishing mark of the United States in the twentieth century. In 1961 the term, "Megalopolis," was used to describe the merging of thirty-one metropolitan areas into one supermetropolis extending in an unbroken urban chain from 'Boston to Washington, D. C.1 Other areas of the country, most notably around the Great Lakes and Los Angeles, also display similar tendencies. The purpose of this paper is, first, to operationally define "megalopolis" and, then to utilize this definition in determining the extent of megalopolitan development in the Dallas and Fort Worth Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas (SMSA's).

The purposes of this study were as follows: (1) to ascertain and compare the effect on self-concept, sociometric status including an index of emotional expansiveness, teacher-rated behavior and grades of three group counseling techniques (a structured aural stimulus approach, a structured visual stimulus approach, and an unstructured approach) upon sixth-grade subjects; (2) to compare the subjects involved in these three types of group counseling sessions with subjects in an control group; (3) to compare the differences in effects of the three techniques separately upon girls and upon boys; and (4) to analyze the implications of these findings for elementary school counselors and teachers.
