From abstract: This report describes a study of coastal processes along the Atlantic Coast from Sea Bright to Ocean Township, New Jersey. Predictive tools were developed and a data analysis made to assist in evaluation and implementation of comprehensive shore protection plans for this highly utilized stretch of coastline.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the sediment delivery to the coast from streams and watersheds draining to the California Coast in the San Diego Region.

From abstract: At the request of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, approximately 84,165 acres of the Clover Mountains Wilderness Study Area (NV-050-139) was evaluated for mineral resources (known) and mineral resource potential (undiscovered). In this report, the area studied is referred to as "the wilderness study area" or simply "the study area;" any reference to the Clover Mountains Wilderness Study Area refers only to that part of the wilderness study area for which a mineral survey was requested by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The study area is located in southern Nevada, in Lincoln County, about 90 mi northeast of Las Vegas. No identified mineral resources exist inside the study area, although gold, silver, and copper resources are found immediately to the west at the Pennsylvania mine.

Abstract: The Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area (UT-060-140A) consists of 12,635 acres in Grand and San Juan Counties, Utah. The study area has inferred subeconomic resources of potash and halite in the subsurface, and sandstone on the surface. The study area has high potential for undiscovered resources of oil and gas, low potential for undiscovered uranium, copper, vanadium, gold, silver, other metals, and geothermal energy, and unknown potential for the rare-earth mineral, braitschite. There is no resource potential for potash or halite (beyond the previously mentioned inferred resources) or for coal.

The wilderness study area is in southeastern San Bernardino County, Calif. Gold, silver, copper, and lead have been mined within and adjacent to the study area.

In October, 1986, the 10th U.S.-German Seminar of State and Planning on Environmental Specimen Banking was held at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences in Gloucester Point, Virginia. At this meeting the current status of specimen banking activities in the U. S., FRG, Canada, and Japan was presented and discussed. This publication contains the proceedings of that meeting with contributions describing various activities related to banking and analysis of samples from aquatic, atmospheric, terrestrial, and human monitoring programs.

From abstract: The La Jencia fault is a recently reactivated late Cenozoic basin margin structure of major proportions that forms the western margin of the Rio Grande rift, which borders the eastern sides of the northern Magdalena Mountains and the southern Bear Mountains in central New Mexico. Stratigraphic throw on the fault has not been determined, but Precambrian rocks of the Magdalena Mountains are uplifted a minimum of 800 m (meters) above the adjacent basin floor, below which lie a thick section of upper Cenozoic basin-fill deposits. Most of the implied displacement is probably Neogene in age.

From abstract: Mafic and ultramafic xenoliths in the Western United States are present in volcanic rocks ranging from lamprophyric to dacitic in composition and are found in every major tectonic province from the Coast ranges from California to the Great Plains. Xenoliths from 68 localities are described here, but new localities are being discovered, and much remain to be learned about their distribution with respect to the tectonic and geophysical framework of the Western United States.

This is a report where the Hawaiian monk seal and the green turtle were studied intermittently on Lisianski Island throughout the summer of 1986. This observational study includes injuries, deaths, reproductions, entanglements and tagging of seals and green turtles.
