This report discusses legislation proposals in the 114th Congress that reflect various positions and stances on mandatory minimum sentences for Federal crimes. Federal crimes are usually punishable by a statutory maximum term of imprisonment--for example, "imprisoned for not more than 5 years."1 A surprising number also have statutory minimum terms of imprisonment--for example, "imprisonment which may not be less than 10 years or for life."

Research Tax Credit: Current Law and Policy Issues for the 114th Congress
Technological innovation is a primary engine of long-term economic growth, and research and development (R&D) serves as the lifeblood of innovation. The federal government encourages businesses to invest more in R&D than they otherwise would in several ways, including a tax credit for increases in spending on qualified research above a base amount.
