Preliminary Report on Methods of Analysis for Very Small Percentages of Uranium 0002 (open access)

Preliminary Report on Methods of Analysis for Very Small Percentages of Uranium 0002

Abstract: Procedures are presented in detail of two methods for the determination of very small percentages of uranium (down to 0.002%). The methods are applicable to a wide variety of materials. Notes on the methods and confirmatory experiments are also given.

Airborne Radioactivity Survey of the Red Desert Region, Sweetwater County, Wyoming (open access)

Airborne Radioactivity Survey of the Red Desert Region, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

From abstract: An airborne radioactivity survey of a selected area in the Red Desert, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, containing outcrops of radioactive lignites and shales of known surface extent and uranium content, was flown on flight lines at three levels, respectively 250, 500, and 1,000 feet above the ground and spaced at one-quarter mile intervals. Measurements from three identical dual-channel radiation detectors were simultaneously recorded to obtain data at various distances from natural radioactive sources of known configuration. The radiation intensity measurements were fully corrected for all extraneous effects and were compiled as profiles of radiation intensity, as an isoradioactivity contour map, and as curves showing the relationship between radiation intensity and distance from the source.

Airborne Radioactivity Surveys in the Mojave Desert Region, Kern, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties, California

From abstract: Airborne radioactivity surveys in the Mojave Desert region, Kern, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties were made in five areas recommended as favorable for the occurrence of radioactive raw materials: (1) Rock Corral area, San Bernardino County. (2) Searles Station area, Kern County. (3) Soledad area, Kern County, (4) White Tank area, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. (5) Harvard Hills area, San Bernardino County. Carnotite Resources of the Legin Group Area, San Miguel County, Colorado (open access)

Carnotite Resources of the Legin Group Area, San Miguel County, Colorado

From abstract: The Legin group area comprises five privately owned claims, nine Government claims, and some public land. The area is in parts of secs. 28 and 29, T. 43 N., R. 19 W., New Mexico principal meridian, San Miguel County, Colo. It is about 45 miles from the Government mill at Monticello, Utah, and 50 miles from the Vanadium Corporation of America mill at Naturita, Colo. The Legin group area has yielded a total production of more than 18,000 short tons of carnotite ore that averaged 0.32 percent U30 and 2.5 percent V 205 . Most of this production was accomplished during the years from 1935 to 1944, and from 1949 to October 1951.

Interim Report on the Radioactive Carbonate-Hematite Veins Near Salmon Bay, Prince of Wales Island, Southeastern Alaska (open access)

Interim Report on the Radioactive Carbonate-Hematite Veins Near Salmon Bay, Prince of Wales Island, Southeastern Alaska

From abstract: In the vicinity of Salmon Bay near the northeastern end of Prince of Wales Island, southeastern Alaska, samples obtained in 1951 from narrow, steeply dipping, carbonate-hematite veins contain as much as ,O.07 percent equivalent uranium. The average grade of these veins cannot be reliably stated because no systematic sampling has been done. No uranium or thorium minerals have been identified. Several chemical analyses indicate only a few thousandths percent uranium. Most of the radioactivity is apparently caused by thorium, which seems to be in or closely associated with red hematite.

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Pliocene (?) Rocks in the Split Rock Area, Central Wyoming (open access)

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Pliocene (?) Rocks in the Split Rock Area, Central Wyoming

From abstract: A sequence of slightly radioactive Pliocene(?) rocks in the Split Rock area of central Wyoming is at least 600 feet thick, underlies an area of more than 25 square miles, and consists of alternating beds of tuffaceous shale, sandstone, and pumicite. Only a small part of the section has been examined. In addition to the uranium content of the strata, there has been secondary concentration of uranium in brecciated limestone similar to spring deposits that could be of Pliocene or Pleistocene age.
