Rover Bank Flood Damage

Long Branch Creek Watershed Project Site 11

Photograph of Watershed Project Site 11. Mr. George Will, District Supervisor, observing Mr. & Mrs. E. C. Webb signing the first easement on Long Branch Watershed. This easement started the proceedings to clear easements and right-of-ways for constructing Site 11 Detention Dam. Main part of dam is on Perry Cerlile's farm. The three are seated on a culvert bridge showing flood water that covered their bottomland farm 15 times in 1957, located in the Black Bear bottom, 2 miles east of Morrison.

Stock Water Pond

Photograph of a stock water pond laid out and staked b the Soil Conservation Service. This pond has a drainage area of 70 acres, a surface area of 2 acres, and will store 12 acre feet of water. It was stocked with fish in September 1855 and will be used also for recreation. Pond is 12 feet or more deep over 40 percent of surface area.

County Road Blocked by Flooding

Photograph of a county road blocked by high water. This road has been blocked for 30 days and the water on both sides of the road has not drained or evaporated for 2 years. Cowpeas planted for a green pea crop have been drowned out. Approximately 400 acres of 5 farms effected by water as seen in photograph. Individual farmer can't do anything successfully about draining his land unless a master drainage plan is developed. Group drainage is needed. Soil units 9 and 15.
