Photograph of a completed stock pond – road fill project. 385 acres drainage area. This was a cooperative project between I.C. Ingram, Caddo County Commissioners, the Soil Conservation Service [SCS] and the Agricultural Conservation Program [ACP]. Ingram needed stock water and received assistance from ACP for that purpose. Caddo County Commissioners furnished extra yardage needed to make it suitable for a raod fill. Ingram has 400 acres in Caddo County and all of it is under a basic plan with the North Caddo Soil Conservation District [SCD]. He started work in 1945 and has been applying soil conservation practices each year. OK-891-3.

The brush has been windrowed and will be left in the field for the conservation of wildlife, erosion control and for residue to improve the soil. Rotation grazing will be practiced in this pasture. Vetch, hop clover and Korean lespedeza will be overseeded in the Bermuda grass. The Bermuda was fertilized with 200 pounds of 0-20-0 fertilizer at the time of sprigging. Owner plans control of mullen in pasture. OK-293-11.

Photograph of a pipe on backside of Site No. 11 Long Branch Watershed Project discharging water from the 17" pipe. From July 13 to 26, 16" of rain fell on this watershed and the water went around the emergency spillway on July 15 following 11' of the rain in 44 hours for about a 3 hour period. Everything worked perfectly and no damage to the bermudagrass cover in the waterway. About 100 to 150' of nativegrass above the permanent pool contour was damaged by standing water during this rain period.

Photograph of a fence line contrast. The pasture on the left has been heavily grazed with sheep. No rains have occurred in 1953. The result is that the range is almost bare. The pasture on the right has not been used as heavily and some clover still remains.

Photograph of improved pasture. Livestock grazing in a Bermuda and clover pasture. This pasture is only 50 acres but carries 40 head of cattle and 100 goats for 10 months of the year. It was sodded to Bermuda grass in 1947. Prior to that time it was cotton land. The grass was given complete fertilizer at the time of planting. Proper grazing is practiced to conserve grass in this pasture. OK-293-10.
