Burkhart, Executive Secretary, Sacramento 14, California, dated July 11, 1951. Burkhart replies to Carswell regarding the two requests for pardon informing him, that under California law, both subjects are on life paroles, therefore, the Authority cannot refix their sentences to terminate their paroles. Subjects must apply through the Governor's office.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated July 5, 1972. Burleson expresses his appreciation for Carswell's letter and kind comments noting their agreement on the need to maintain the Nation's security. He advises of the so-called Revenue Sharing proposal passing the House, of his vote against it and of the enclosed copy of dissenting views he filed with the Committee. An enclosure includesd a document titled "Additional Dissenting Views of Honorable Omar Burleson," a discussion by Burleson of a bill that he introduced in 1969 and again in 1971 to decentralize two programs bogged down with red tape. The Committee's bill does the opposite by compounding the existing over-centralization and costing the taxpayer. Good government is economical and efficient and provides services desired by the people.

Burleson acknowledges the note from Carswell regarding proposals to increase mail rates. He advises that the Postmaster General made an excellent case for increasing rates to reduce the deficit, but the entire Department needs to be reorganized on a more businesslike basis.

Burleson expresses his appreciation for Carswell's note on the copy of the address by David Braden. He advises that he had seen it and that it is something with which he is in fullest agreement.

Busby acknowledges the message from Carswell in which he supports S. J. Res. 1 to prevent international treaties from superseding the Constitution. He advises Carswell that Senator Daniel is one of the co-sponsors of the Bricker Amendment.

A letter written to Daddy [T. N. Carswell] from Peg [Peggy Carswell]. She advises that Mother talked with the Dean, all is straightened out and they "were sorry". She advises of the change of her faculty advisor and that she will be taking different courses including Public Speaking.

A letter written to "Folks" [T. N. Carswell and Byrdie Carswell] from Peg [Peggy Carswell]. Peggy explans the circumstances leading to Cornell having placed her on probation noting that "It is the height of stupidity, ignorance, and pig-headedness to put me on pro for something I can't help, and especially when I have done all in my power to meet the damn requirement." She continues to discuss the probation status as an error and requests that they communicate with Dean R. P. Sibley.

A letter written to Dad [T. N. Carswell] from "Baby Doll" [Peggy Carswell], Balch Hall, dated July 14, 1944. Peggy Carswell advises that she always has so much to say but never writes it down and expresses her regret that she is not able to talk to Carswell about everything such as the future, her idea of going to the Panama Canal Zone and her job for next year because he always listens to her and points out things that she has not yet thought of then discusses the matter "savily"comparing how she and her mother fight over unimportant things such as that she dropped, not failed, Shakespeare because she was taking 18 hours and needed to drop to 15 hours. She lists her responsibilities as Stage Manager of the Drama Club, requests that he not tell Mother about the job she will have at $10 a week for the summer and asks what he thinks about her working. She compliments Carswell's letters, specifically his command of language, and comments on the letter that he wrote to the President, agreeing with him regarding his opinion of a fourth term for Roosevelt. She writes that a fourth term "would be disasterous …

She explains her non-involvement before in campus activities but that she is now "dreadfully" busy describing her school activities, roommate, friends and jobs. She confirms that she is meeting Mother at the train, tonight.
