Burkhart replies to Carswell regarding the two requests for pardon informing him, that under California law, both subjects are on life paroles, therefore, the Authority cannot refix their sentences to terminate their paroles. Subjects must apply through the Governor's office.

Carswell explains that he read an article printed in the AMERICAN LEGION Magazine about the signers of the Declaration of Independence that was written by Merle Sinclair. He then requests a copy of a booklet published by them that was recommended to him by Sinclair.

Blitch expresses her appreciation for the letter from Carswell containing a ballot concerning labor legislation. She confirms that they are distant cousins and knows his brother Allen quite well.
