The letter originally had an enclosure of a newspaper clipping dated July 14, 1950 from The Fort Bend Reporter of Rosenberg, Texas. Apparently this newspaper article was an open letter in which segregation issues were discussed. The American Legion Post members felt that an answer should be written in response and were turning to LULAC for advice.
