UNT celebrated Earth Week in April of 2011 with events to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. As part of Earth Week and Financial Literacy Week festivities, TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie was a guest lecturer. In 2006, he founded TOMS Shoes, matching each pair sold with a pair donated to a child in need. TOMS has provided more than 1 million pairs of shoes to children in countries throughout the world and has giving partners that distribute the shoes as part of community development and education.
