Dust Storm Field Treatment with Grass Planting
Photograph of aerial view to the City Service Company compressor plant at Straight in the Oklahoma Panhandle was built iin the midst of the wheat growing area in 1944. The first year, the company had a great deal of trouble from blowing dust. The Soil Conservation District helped them get a start of buffalo and other grasses, however, and now the entire 160 acres surrounding the plant is tied down with grass.

Dust Storm Medical Treatment
Photograph of Dr. J.E. Morgan, eye, ear and nose specialist, shows how he treats his patients after a dust storm in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Sinus patients are affected tremendously by dust, the doctor says. Dr. G.E. Haslan at Anadarko said the March dust storm in his area caused him to have 3 or 4 times more patients than in normal times. He had so many patients he couldn't keep up withthem all land had to have other doctors to help out.

House on Stoneybroke Ranch
Photograph of the house that good grass and fine Angus cattle built. Stone to build the house came from Stoneybroke Ranch. Mr. & Mrs. Carlton Corbin have worked hard to mae a success of their cattle business. This is oone of their rewards.

Photograph of L. L. Loftin, Soil Conservation Service [SCS] Technician, stands in excellent growth of common & Autauga crimson clover and sericea lespedeza. Seeded to sericea in 1947 and fertilized with 300 pounds of 4-8-4 fertilizer. Phosphated in the spring of 1949 with 400 pounds of superphosphate. Seeded to 5 pounds of Artauga and 15 pounds of common crimson clover in October, 1949. The sericea does not appear to be damaged. Soil Unit 6-UC. LA-61-871.

Photograph of Mr. & Mrs. S. B. Sandlin, Jr. inspect a heavy seed head of Autauga reseeding Crimson clover. It is evident that a good seed yield is expected here. This will be the first Autauga crimsom to be combined for seed in Webster Parish. Seeded on Nov. 10, 1949 with 12 pounds of seed. Fertilized with 1 ton of lime, 1000 pound rock phosophorus, 150 pounds muriate of potash, 15 pounds Borax per acre. LA-61-869.

Dust Storm Pasture Protected by Grass
Photograph of this district cooperator's farm in the midst of the worse dust storm area around Anadarko is being partially protected by grass. Note the newly plowed land between terraces in background. The plowing was done after the dust storm in March. The terraces were ruined by the accumulation of sand. Alll of this field is being turned back to grass.

Water Treatment Due to Dust Storm
Photograph of water supply of Anadarko citizens who depend on its water supply from the Washita River. When there is dust in the air, the water must be treated more than during normal times inorder to make the water usable by the citizens.

Photograph of water supply during the dust storm in March 1950, had to be treated extra in order to get the sand out of the two settling basins. Water to supply the city comes from the Washita River, which was low due to drought. Settling basins are open to dust.
