Letter from Truett Latimer to A. E. Wells discussing House Bill 8, which would increase teachers' salaries. Latimer writes that he understands teachers' frustration about the bill's delay, that he has told teachers he did not know how much money would be left in the General Revenue but that he was hopeful there would be enough to accommodate their request, and that he voted for a motion concerning the natural gas tax. He continues that the General Appropriations Bill should be out of committee soon and that should be able to resolve the issue before the legislature closes.

Latimer writes that until the General Appropriations bill has passed legislators will not know how much money is available in the General Revue Fund for new appropriations. He mentions that he voted for a motion to insert an enacting clause into a tax bill that had been left out by mistake but the motion did not pass but that he will do everything he can to pass a raise for teachers.

Letter from Truett Latimer to Preston Parker discussing House Bill 8 related to salary raises for teachers. Responding to a previous letter from Parker, Latimer writes that he objects to Parker's characterization of him being against improvements to the Texas education system and that he is one of the few members of the House to vote against all the amendments during debate of the General Appropriations Bill. Latimer also mentions his position against federal aid for education, which he offers to explain to Parker in more detail. He writes that he voted for a motion to insert an enacting clause in a dedication tax bill that was mistakenly left out but that the motion was defeated.
