This letter was written from St. Mary's Seminary in La Porte, Texas.

Letter to John J. Herrera from Tony Campos, Chairman of District Eight Convention of League of United Latin American Citizens, inviting Herrera to attend the District VIII Conection of LULAC on May 23, 1954. Campos urges Herrera to help get people excited to attend the Convention. Campos includes a post scrip that reassures Herrera that District VIII is still backing him for the Presidency of LULAC.

Laurel, National Legal Adviser, League of United Latin American Citizens advising Laurel of the official number of appropriate days that are required to announce the candidates for the National Presidency of LULAC was 45 days instead of 60. Herrera reassures Laurel of Herrera's certainty of this number: "I am very certain of it because I was the first national president after said resolution that was called upon to put said resolution into effect". Herrera goes on to inform Laurel that Herrera's candidacy for national president had already been submitted to the Houston Council Number 60.

Letter from A.L. Wirin to John H. Herrera asking whether there has been any further development from the time Herrera and Gus had a meeting in Washington regarding segregation of Mexican Americans, at the Public Housing Project in Houston.

Letter to John J. Herrera from Frederick Wiener, Executive Director of Jewish Vocational Service, thanking John for attendance and attention at a meeting had on April the 15th at the Jewish Vocational Service offices. Wiener gives further details of a discussion held at the meeting of working with the station KLVL to "stimulate the community to employ the psychically handicapped." Wiener asks Herrera or Mr. Gomez to follow up on the proposal and to notify him to continue on the further interest on behalf of both parties.

Letter from Oscar M. Laurel to Albert Armendariz, National President of the League of United Latin American Citizens addressing the reasoning behind the sixty day requirement of the submission of names of candidates running for the office of national president: "To notify the national office sixty days prior to the national convention is merely to appraise all the councils throughout the League of the names of the persons so interested." This resolution was created to help with "the matter of so called 'dark horses' who, by reason of political strategy and maneuver withold until the last minute the placing of their names in nomination."

Letter to John J. Herrera from Jacob I. Rodriguez, Public Relations Chairman of San Antonio League of United Latin American Citizens, extending an official invitation to the "Banquete de Los Reyes honoring the Ugly Kinds of our La Feria de las Flores." This letter gives further details on the location and the date and time of the banquet and requests Herrera's presence and reservation.

Letter to John J. Herrera from Ralph W. Yarborough, thanking Herrera for his offer of aid to Yarborough's campaign for Governor of Texas, if Yarborough decides to announce to run. Yarborough explains the different dilemmas, as well as the hope of running for office. Yarborough shares statistics on votes and percentages of statewide averages of voters and asks Herrera for advice and recommendations in regards to the increase of voting statistics. The letter mentions the following enclosures with this letter: biographical sketch, a copy of the State Observer for December 14, 1953, and a copy of the State Observer for October 19, 1953.

Letter to John J. Herrera from General Chairman Reynaldo de la Garza and Bennie Cantu from the San Antonio LULAC Council No. 2 inviting Herrera to the "traditional Feria de las Flores" (which translates to the Flower Show) which is a dinner dance that raised money for the LULAC Scholarship Fund. Herrera was invited to attend as the guest of honor to the dinner dance on Friday, April 30th at the Seven Oaks Country Club. "This particular evening has been set aside especially for the purpose of honoring our former 'Reyes Feos', all of you will receive the recognition at this dinner dance to which you are so justly entitle." The translation of "Reyes Feos", is "The Ugly Kings" which is a non-profit organization that raises money for scholarships that are awarded to deserving Texas students.

Letter to John J. Herrera from T.W. Buckshot Lane. Lane addresses Herrera as his "Friend Johnny" and asks Herrera to once again join the race to run for the office of Harris County Representative. Lane expresses his confidence in being elected if his name is on the ballot to run for the position of Representative of Wharton County, which he confides in Herrera that he is considering. "If you have plans for another race then in the event the two of us are lucky I think there is no doubt about it, we can together gets things done, your legal training and brains, my guts and big mouth, we should do things."
