All the instruments shown here, some of them still secret nature, are being used in the evaporation studies under the way at the lake. The joint project of the U.S. geological survey, the weather bureau, U.S. navy and bureau of reclamation, will last one year. Similar shore installations will also take daily scientific readings on wind velocities, humidity at various heights, temperature, and other factors to be studied in an overall formula for computting water losses. Fishermen may wonder about the barge as they ride past, but are asked not to get aboard the strange craft and jar the sensitive instuments."
