Lloyd explains why his choice to take a trip back to Abilene rather than going abroad was the right choice. He gives his take, 40 years later, of their friendship early on noting the similarity of their lives regarding both of their wives' borderline insanity. He advises that he enclosed a cheque and requests that Carswell send flowers to Claudine and Ollie Lena Olsen.
