Burleson advises of his nomination of Thomas Dale Butler, Jr. to take the admission exam for the United States Air Force Academy noting that Carswell's recommendation of Butler carried much weight. The reverse side includes handwritten calculations and inked stamp date Jan. 31 1958.

A letter written to Dr. E. S. James, Editor of The Baptist Standard, from T. N. Carswell, dated January 10, 1958. Carswell discusses the attached editorial written by James, "Down with The Baptists" and addresses an inference that he finds unclear: "that our Baptist schools are in error when admission is granted to non-Baptists, and in admitting Baptists whose church record is amiss". Carswell advises of his disagreement with such a policy, of the effects of the possible application in the future. The article in question, which appeared in the January 1958 issue of The Baptist Standard, is attached, and includes the report regarding student protests at Wake Forest demonstrating against the convention for its ban on dancing on campus; condemnation of the action by Wake Forest trustees which allowed dancing on campus; praise regarding action taken by President J. C. Canipe; condemnation of students on any Baptist campus participating in unchristian demonstrations then presenting the theory these students are not Baptists which stems from schools accepting applicants from other denominations.

Wooten expresses his appreciation for the note from Carswell, that it added appreciably to the Christmas spirit and advises that he sent a copy of Carswell's note to his Mother.

Klopfenstein expresses his appreciation for the willingness of Carswell to assist in the supervision of Subject 95040 in the case that Subject is not returned to the Ohio Penitentiary.

Latimer advises Carswell that he is sending to him a copy of Senate Bill 154 pertaining to adult probation and parole and confirms that he is in agreement with him on the issues concerning government employees and unions, on an election by voters of the next Texas Senator, and on segregation by local choice.

A letter written to Mr. P. W. Williams, Chairman, El Paso County Parole Board, El Paso, Texas, from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, Ruby Blackburn, Executive Director, dated January 9, 1957. Blackburn advises of the background and unusual situation of a subject from the Taylor County Jail and requests supervision by Williams after the transfer of Subject from Taylor County to El Paso County into the custody of her son. Additional correspondence typewritten at the bottom of page is written to T. N. Carswell by Ruby Blackburn which requests that he transfer his file on Subject to Mr. Williams.

A letter written to "Miss Emma Patterson" (Mrs. J. F. Daugharty), Fargo, Georgia from T. N. Carswell, dated January 20, 1956. Carswell expresses his sympathy to Daugharty on the death of her husband and reminisces about the past and how he knew her. Attached is a newspaper article printed by the Clinch County News, Homerville, Georgia, with an obituary titled "J. F. Daugharty Dies At Age 83".

Klopfenstein, Chief, Ohio Bureau of Probation and Parole, from Jack Ross, Administrator, Interstate Parole Compact (by Sarah Landes, Supervisor, Parole Division), Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, dated January 18, 1956. Official reply by Landes to correspondence received by Klopfenstein regarding the termination of the supervision of Subject OP 95040. Typewritten at the bottom of the page is correspondence from Sarah Landes to Mr. Carswell instructing Carswell to close out his file on Subject OP 95040 but notes that Ohio wishes to be advised of the knowledge of the "whereabouts" of Subject, if secured.

Caffey requests advisement by Shepperd on whether or not the setting aside of a sentence by the court in the discussed case restores citizenship and entitles the person convicted to vote.
